Internet Safety

Now that your child is a teenager, they are probably on the internet more and more. Whether it is for school or fun, internet safety for kids is important, no matter how young or old your child is. Unfortunately, the older your child gets, the harder it is to monitor them, and get them to realize that they do not know it all. Kids sometimes get this false sense of security, especially when they hit the teen years, which can definitely be a safety issue for them on the internet. So, what can you do? Well, first talk with them. Yes, they may roll their eye’s, even ignore you, but you have to try and then try some more. Set rules, with consequences, and monitor your child’s internet time. I know that we live in the age of tablets and smart-phones, so this can be harder to do if they have these devices, but as the parent it is your job to try. You can also demand to view their search history too. Last, but not least, there are also programs you can buy (some are free too), that you can put on the devices to filter and provide a safer environment for your child. Your kids may not be happy, but they will be safer, and that is what’s important :)
